A Day on Bald Head

On Saturday, July 14, 2018, the Cape Fear Grady Club enjoyed a great day on Bald Head Island!  Some club members even made a weekend out of it, staying until Monday morning. Below is the outline of the event club members received, a video on how to get to Bald Head Island in your boat, and pictures from this year’s trip. 

THE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • There will be a navigation briefing at Atlantic Marine at 9:00am
  • Leave from Atlantic Marine, Wrightsville Beach, 9:30am
  • Travel south in the waterway to the Cape Fear River, then south to Bald Head Island at the mouth of the Cape Fear River
  • Dock at Bald Head Island Marina
  • Pick up your golf cart(s) at the marina
  • Explore the island, light house, frying pan shoals, marina, creeks, and more
  • Lunch at the Bald Head Island Club
    • Buffet Selections:
      • Tossed Garden Salad
      • Rosemary Dijon Roasted Potatoes
      • Roasted Mahi with Grilled Pineapple Relish
      • Grilled Flank Steak with Mushroom Gravy
      • Assorted cookies
    • Cash bar for beer and wine
  • Leave anytime you like – the golf cart is yours all day
  • RSVP Required.  Please RSVP as soon as possible as dock space and golf carts are limited
  • You may stay overnight, we recommend The Inn at Bald Head Island or Marsh Harbor Inn.  If you elect to stay overnight, you may handle those accommodations directly. Please indicate on your registration if you plan to stay overnight so we can work directly with you on golf carts and dockage.

EVENT COST:

  • Dockage ($40 per boat)
  • Lunch at the Bald Head Island Club ($35 per person, cash bar for beer and wine)
  • Golf Carts ($77 per four person cart, $110 per six person cart)
  • Atlantic Marine will collect from each club member and pay the vendors on this event.
  • Some charges may still apply if you are unable to attend or weather prevents us from taking the trip.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE THE TRIP:

  • Register!  You will receive a confirmation e-mail after signing up!
  • Watch the “Wrightsville Beach to Bald Head Island” video
  • Check for required safety gear
  • Make sure your boat registration is current
  • Make sure you are current on your routine maintenance
  • Top off with fuel (or enough for the trip)
  • Turn on tracks on your Garmin or other GPS unit, so you will have a clear path home, if you decided to come home own your on.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND YOU BRING:

  • A light jacket or rain jacket in case we run into rain
  • VHF radio so you can communicate with the group.  We will use channel 77 (subject to change).
  • Cell phone
  • Docklines and fenders
  • Grady Club Name Badge (Let Jordan know if you need one)
  • Driver license for the operator of the golf cart
